Happy 2021, let's hope that this year is more normal than last year!
To date, I haven’t seen any pending legislation of
concern, but that could change in an instant.
There is an item that has been on my, 'to do
list' for quite some time that I need help with.
In 2017 Senate Bill 12 https://legis.delaware.gov/BillDetail?legislationId=25381
was passed that allowed the use of ground effect lighting to be used on motorcycles
to increase safety by making us more visible when riding in low light conditions.
The issue is and has been that the legislation only allowed for amber or white accent lights.
I have been approached many times about getting the color selection expanded.
This is what I need everyone’s help with.
Please contact your Senators and Representatives and ask that they submit
or sponsor a bill to remove “amber or white” from title 21, § 4346A (b).
You may get some push back for red or blue lights, simply remind them that that paragraph
already prohibits flashing lights so those colors are no more likely to be confused with
emergency response vehicles (Police cars, Ambulances or Fire Trucks) than a brake light.
